Your boss said this to you:
"Let me try to say this in the nicest way.... you are the fish in the bottom of the tank here...."
My brain stopped functioning right after that bottom-tanked-fish story. I wonder if my boss was trying to make me quit my job? Seriously, who in the world with right mind would like to be the fish in the bottom of the tank in the company? Who with the right mind would think, hmm i am going to continue work hard and hopefully one day i would move to a better position in this company?
Whatever that he said to me was the NICEST way of saying it that he could think of (am i making sense here?) So, the next question in my mind was, how would you say it to me without sugar coating it? "You are the biggest piece of shit in our team?"
What makes you think that after you said those things to me, I would still want to contribute to your team? I have worked hard and fought hard. Now I am thinking, WHAT FOR?????
